From a fishing village outside Hong Kong to Miller Road in Flint. This is the story of Grandma Yin, Grandpa Wing Gong, and the Yue family who keep their recipes alive.
Yin, the woman Flint would come to know as Grandma, grew up in a small fishing village on the outskirts of Hong Kong. She shared a one-bedroom home with her adoptive mother and twelve siblings.
Food was how a crowded household showed love. [add detail: a dish or memory from her childhood]

In the early 1960s she met and married Wing Gong, our Grandpa. After two children, they left everything familiar and moved to the United States, barely speaking a word of English.
They arrived in [add year & city].
For almost a decade they worked at a family-owned Chinese restaurant in Novi: learning English, learning American tastes, and saving every dollar they could toward a place of their own.

They moved to Flint in 1983, and in 1984 opened The Golden Moon at 4527 Miller Road. Egg rolls were hand-rolled, sauces were made in house, and soups were made from scratch. They still are.
Not long after opening, Grandpa fell ill and passed away. The restaurant became the Yue children’s to run, and they have owned and run it ever since, often with the grandkids behind the counter.
